Christine Rickert Sets Record at High Point University!

She is only a freshman, but WOW what a great start to her career at High Point University!  Records!
Check ou the article at the High Point University Website on Christine!

Christine had a great career at Hempfield!  Check out what her college coach said about her:

"She's only a freshman but Christine has make a huge jump already. She was a good athlete with a good athlete in high school and now we're seeing it in the javelin already. She can be a bigtime thrower."

For all you high school athletes, this is a plug to play as many sports as possible!  Be an athlete!
In high school Christine did just that!  And at Hempfield, the school record holder in the javelin!

The next four years should be exciting for Chris!  Good Luck!  And we will be watching!!!

His 200 meter time of 22.5 was great for this time of the year!  Koenig(winning the 100m & 400 Relay) and Lathon(winning the 400m) make this sprint crew on of Hempfield best in recent times!  In the distance events, Birk(winning the 800m, 1600m & 3200 Relay), and Yurchak(winning the 3200m & 3200 Relay) provided strength in the longer races!  And in the hurdles, one of the best in district 3, Santos(winning the 110m 300m & 400 Relay) had an incredible day!

Friday - A Big Day for Hempfield Track & Field

Friday, March 8th, was a big day for Hempfield Track & Field.

Let's begin with the high school team.  We have two great vaulters on the team this year!  Senior Kayla Garpstas & junior Dani Poletti!  This indoor season both Kayla & Dani qualified for indoor States.  Dani also qualified for the National Meet!!  Dani competed in the Elite Emerging Girls competition in the Armory in New York City!  Dani finished 4th!!  Great job Dani!!  See results below!

Any the Hempfield athletes in college had an awesome Friday!!!  Eric Solomon(2010) & Melissa Fellenbaum(2007) both traveled to Illinois to compete in the division 3 National Championships!

Eric Solomon set a new school record for Widener & finished 8th with a 60' 1/2" throw!!!  Eric, as mentioned in an early blog entry, was an outstanding thrower for Hempfield in his high school career!  But, now Eric is now throwing his favorite implement!! The weight throw!  I'm sure in the spring Eric will break out the Hammer!!  Check out the results below!

Great job Eric!

And Melissa Fellenbaum continued her great season with a 6th place finish jumping 12'7". Melissa was our high school girls record holder till last season!  That is when Dani Poletti(see above!) broke her record while winning the Lancaster Lebanon Pole Vault competition! Melissa started out at Kutztown and had a great freshman year!  She transferred to Penn State Berks to pursue a degree in occupational therapy.  While at Penn State Berks Melissa could not jump because they did not have a track & field team! And decided that she still wanted top jump & had eligibility left!  Now at Alvernia, Melissa is shattering all school records and representing her school with style!!  ANd is she flying now!!! Check out her results:

What an incredible Friday for Hempfield Track & Field!!!

Hempfield High School Track Begins Season!

Retirement is always difficult when you give up something you love!  Track & Field has been a part of my life since my high school days!  My first year was 1968, freshman in high school!  My last year was 2012, coaching for Hempfield!

Today was the first day of track practice!  My first day was 45 years ago! I remember just a little!

•  Running my workouts in converse sneakers!

•  My first 400 meters!

•  Finding my event - the 180 yard low hurdles! (yes, that event doesn't exist anymore!!)

•  Falling on a cinder track! (still have cinders in my knee!)

•  Track Weather - windy, cold, snow, rain,......

Good luck Hempfield!  "The Tradition Continues!"
